Cimicifugia ramosa. Black Snakeroot. A striking dark purplish-black version of the green species. Unusual 12" long, fragrant 'bottle brush' flowers open white with a pale blush pink tinge. A collector's item.
Cimicifugia prefer moist, mostly shady conditions. They attract butterflies. The flowers make great additions to fresh-cut flower bouquets. Cimicifugia are generally resistant to deer and rabbits.
