Heuchera 'Berry Smoothie'

Wisconsin grown!

Heuchera Heuchera 'Berry Smoothie'. This exciting plant offers large, rounded leaves of colors from purple-rose to rose-pink. Spectacular! This strong grower is a special hybrid of americana x villosa that tolerates the heat & humidity of the south. As with most coral bells this unique beauty goes through seasonal changes; young foliage starts out less flashy in tones of green. Happiest when kept out of full sunshine. PP#21871.

This plant is a Heuchera villosa hybrid. The villosa species is a robust grower with an increased tolerance of high heat and humidity over other species. Most villosas produce flowers in midsummer, though they are usually grown more for their fantastic foliage. H. villosa is native to the southeastern United States. If you live in the south this plant is a great choice for your garden!

Heuchera, also known as Coral Bells, are extremely versatile perennial plants that are primarily grown for their colorful foliage. They grow well in full sun, part sun or shade. Each variety has a preferred sun exposure so there is one for every garden location. Once established Coral Bells are drought tolerant and deer resistant. Many of the newer varieties of Coral Bells have colorful flowers, a huge improvement over varieties of the past that had bland blooms. The flower stems are great additions to fresh-cut flower bouquets. The sweet flowers attract hummingbirds and butterflies.

Like all heuchera family plants, this variety goes through seasonal color changes. Temperature, genetics, age and sun exposure all contribute to the color of the foliage. Brightest colors are usually seen during colder months. Young starter plants usually need a full year in their new home to develop all the coloration, size and texture. Too much shade can dull the colors. Some varieties genetically have more significant changes. You get 4 seasons of visual excitement.
